NEW Staff

We are so pleased to welcome new staff to DIS!
We have a new principal Mrs. Ashley Walters, a new 5th grade teacher Ms. Danielle Cullen and a new 4th grade teacher Ms. Audrey Atkins.
Welcome Danielle Cullen to Deal Island Elementary School as our NEW 5th grade teacher! Ms. Cullen is no stranger to 5th grade as she has taught 5th grade at Greenwood for the past 4 years. She is also not a stranger to Deal Island as she attended herself when she was a 4th/5th grader. Ms. Cullen currently resides close by in Mount Vernon with her fiancé and daughter. If you don't see her here at school, you can find her on the Wicomico river fishing!
Miss Atkins is our 4th Grade Teacher. She is from Crisfield, MD. She has previously worked in Math Intervention at Greenwood Elementary School. She enjoys boating, spending time with her family, and riding her bike. She is also getting married in June 2022 and is so excited for that. She is so happy to be joining us at Deal Island Elementary and is very excited for an awesome school year!
Mrs Walters Message: Hello! I'm excited to be the new Principal at Deal Island Elementary! This will be my 6th year as principal, but first at DIS. For those that don't know I taught 3rd grade here for 4 years prior to pursuing various leadership positions. I look forward to becoming re-acclimated to the school, meeting all the students and their families. I remember from my past experience here that DIS has an amazing staff and wonderful parent and community involvement! I am anxious to start collaborating and planning with all of our stakeholders to make this school year the best it can be! Everyone has experienced a lot of challenges the past year and a half but I look forward to helping the school move forward, ensuring we are preparing our students for a successful future. One of our priorities this year will be to increase parent and community involvement. We look forward to welcoming families and community members back into our school regularly, when it's safe to do so. I'm looking forward to a great school year!
