We also honor Mr. Andy Collins! Mr. Collins is a Behavior Intervention Assistant. Black History month for him means celebrating the success and informing us of the struggles leaders have gone through for us and laid out for the future generations to follow. He is also keeps very busy as Boys Varsity Basketball coach!

Today we recognize Mrs. DeAlma Ward, one of our "cafeteria ladies!" Here is what Payden Ward wrote about her! Some of you may know Ms. Dealma Ward from her serving you in the cafeteria. Ms. Dealma Ward is a cafeteria aid and loves working with children of all ages, and loves watching them grow. To her Black History Month is a celebration of her ancestors and their excellences, and is a motivation for her to strive for greatness.

For the remainder of February, in recognition of Black History Month, we will be featuring the staff members that we highlighted in a special edition of our school newsletter, the Crabber Insider Extra! Today we start with Ms. Janae Johnson. This piece was written by Alisa Cziuzas. Ms. Janae Johnson is a Learning Support Specialist & 8th and 9th grade counselor. Ms. Johnson said that to her Black History Month is a time for African Americans to be celebrated and to be recognized for their progresses and accomplishments. It is also a time to celebrate important traditions and cultures and also honor those before us and those making a difference now and those continuing to work toward making a difference. Ms. Johnson has worked in Somerset County Public Schools for 20 years, she has been out of the classroom for 9 years and she says that the thing she misses the most is teaching about Black History. Her favorite quote comes from Maya Angelou: “I have learned that people will forget what you said; people will forget what you did; but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

Save the Date! It's almost 3 months until the Haitian Flag Day Celebration that will be held in Salisbury on Sunday, May 19, 2024 from 3 to 8 pm. It is Haiti's national day and carries a huge cultural and historical significance as it represents their freedom. Downtown Salisbury will be blocked off and there will be music, singing, dancing, traditional costume parades, cultural presentations, food, vendors and much more!

We are happy to announce our 2024 Teacher of the Year! Eighth grade social studies teacher, Ms. Erin Walbert. She doesn't usually come to school in a bathrobe, but today is the 100th day of school, so she was playing the part (looking old!)! The announcement was made in front of the entire student body at the end of the day. We wish Ms. Walbert the best as she goes forward!

Over the next few months, CAHS has several field trips planned for our students. The administration would like to remind students and parents of a few things before the trips begin. 1. Going on a trip is a privilege that is earned, not guaranteed. 2. School rules apply on the bus and at the destination. 3. Students should dress appropriately - no ripped clothing (jeans), school appropriate tops with no advertisements for illegal items or hateful speech. 4. No vapes, tobacco, alcohol, illegal or recreational drugs. 5. Be early for all meet times. If the bus leaves at 6 am, be early so you get a good seat. 6. Remember you are representing Crisfield. RESPECT YOURSELF, RESPECT OTHERS and ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY at all times.
