Deal Island Elementary School Receives 3-Star Rating on 2024–2025 MSDE Report Card

Deal Island, MD – Deal Island Elementary School has received a 3-star rating (51.5%) on the 2024–2025 Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Report Card. While this marks a decrease from last year’s 4-star rating (62%), the school remains committed to continuous improvement and to supporting every student’s academic success and well-being.

“Our students continue to demonstrate strong performance in English Language Arts (ELA),” said Mrs. Ashley Walters, principal of Deal Island Elementary School. “We’re proud of the progress we’ve made, especially among our economically disadvantaged students who met their ELA targets, and showed an increase of 9% from the 23-24 school year. We recognize the need to strengthen our mathematics outcomes and are actively implementing strategies to help all students grow in this area.”

In addition to maintaining strong performance in school environment and quality, Deal Island Elementary continues to prioritize student engagement, positive relationships, and a safe, inclusive atmosphere for learning.

For the current school year, the school’s key areas of focus include:

  • Reducing chronic absenteeism

  • Improving student proficiency in Mathematics and ELA

  • Continuing to support equitable growth for all learners
