In an effort to improve our vocabulary usage across all grade levels, we have created these vocabulary cards for our school and families to use at home and in the classroom. We encourage you each week to try to incorporate our DIS word(s) of the week into your conversations at home. Good afternoon DIS families! It's Teacher Appreciation Week! We are so thankful for all the donations of goodies from our community showing our school staff love! RSVP for an evening of fun family activities, information on preparing your child for school, PK registration, community information, great giveaways and a dinner provided by Mission BBQ at the school readiness fair. This will take place on Friday, May 10th at Somerset Intermediate School from 4:30-7:00.

One last reminder that our Prek3 thru 1st grade field trip is tomorrow! Students may dress nice and casual. Students should be dropped off at DIS starting at 8:20. We are leaving DIS at 8:45. This only applies to those students attending the trip, 2nd-5th will not have a teacher to watch them. THANK YOU!

Tutoring has ended for the school year. We have our Field Trip to the Ballet for PK3-1st grade on Friday. Those students may dress casual and nice for the event and will need to be dropped off at 8:20 am. Deal Island's Art is on display at the County Art Festival all week long at BOE. We have a slower paced week! Friday is going to be our end of the month April incentive so it will be a free casual day! April 29th is our County Art Show opening reception from 4:30-6:30pm. Have a wonderful week!

Did you know that Deal Island Elementary School's Pre-K Program is currently working on State Accreditation? We'd like to give a great big shout out to Ms. Justice and Ms. Stevens for all their hard work with this process. We have gone through all of the Accreditation Standards, completed our self assessment and have made changes and improvements as necessary. Somerset County Public Schools Fine Art Department cordially invites students, families, staff and the greater community to visit the 2024 SCPS Fine Art Festival. Student artwork will be on display at the Board of Education Office from April 29 - May 3, 2024, 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Opening night, April 29, 2024 from 4:30 - 6:30pm, will feature performances by the SIS band and choir in front of the Board of Education building. This event is open to the public. Please stop in and view this year's county-wide exhibition of student artwork!

Due to flooding in Somerset County, our scheduled School Readiness Fair has been postponed to a future date. More information will be sent out soon concerning another future date for this event. If you need assistance registering your child for PK or Kindergarten, please contact your child’s home school.

Due to this morning's hazardous weather and road conditions as well as the scheduled early dismissal, all classes will be conducted remotely as an asynchronous virtual school day. Assigned classwork must be turned in on Monday, April 15 for the student to be counted present in school unless other arrangements are made with the teacher. All after school activities are cancelled.

Guardians of 5th and 6th grade students: The Somerset County Historical Society's Time Traveler's History Camp registration is open and accepting applications. Complete and return the application no later than May 10, 2024.

On Monday, the solar eclipse is taking place. A permission slip was sent home for you to return if you DON'T want your student(s) to participate - special glasses are provided. Tutoring after school on Monday has been cancelled. Friday is an early dismissal day beginning at 12:30. Our Hit the Books/Shorebirds event and the School Readiness Fair are that evening. 3rd and 4th grade students have MCAP testing this week. We hope everyone works hard during the last week of Q3!
