Disregard the last message! Due to the high number of power outages, Somerset County Public Schools will be closed today, Monday, February 23,2026 for students and all staff. Essential employees will receive further information from their supervisors. There will be no virtual learning today. Please stay safe.

Good morning! Our virtual schedule starts at 8 and ends at 12 today. We understand weather may impact electricity or internet access — students should do their best to attend, but safety comes first. Please complete any packet work assigned and return to school to be marked as present. Reach out to your classroom teacher if you have any questions or concerns and we will do our best to help! Hello DIS Families, Out of an abundance of caution, we are sending home devices for students in case we need to utilize virtual learning on Monday. 2nd-5th will be bringing home their laptop, laptop charger and bag. Prek-1st will have an iPad and charger. Teachers may also include worksheets/packets with the devices. If you were absent and did not receive your device, we will make up the work upon your return to school. When we return physically to school, please bring all the materials back. More information about Virtual Learning will be posted if the county makes that decision to do so. 2/16-2/20: 100th Day of School on Wed, you can dress like you're 100 years old or a t-shirt with a 100 things. Shorebirds bookmarks are due at the end of the month.

We are celebrating 100 days of school on February 18th! Students can dress like they are 100 years old or wear a 100th day themed shirt!

Just a reminder that tomorrow is an early dismissal day at 12:30pm and that there is no school on Monday. K-5 students will need their tennis shoes to do their Jump Rope for Heart Stations!

Congratulations to our 2026-2027 Deal Island Teacher of the Year: Mrs. Stevens from Prek3! We are so excited to have her represent our school and wish her luck as she competes against other schools for the Somerset County Teacher of the Year. Shout out to all of our DIS teachers who were nominated by our students and families.

It’s almost here! It’s our final week of Kids Heart Challenge! We are having a blast learning
how to keep our hearts and minds healthy and happy. I’m so proud of our students and families.
Together, our efforts will help to save lives!
There’s still time to help us reach our goal of 50% of our families joining our team. When that
happens our school will earn a $500 gift certificate for physical activity and recess equipment to
support the health of our school community.
Here’s how you can help:

2. Raise funds to help kids with special hearts.
3. Complete Finn’s Mission: Complete all 7 steps, learn Hands-Only CPR, and be
entered to win two Super Bowl tickets!

 When students reach $5,000 in lifesaving donations, school will get a celebration with
NEON DISCO PARTY!
 Classroom Challenge: Class with most students registered & Class with most Finn’s
Missions completed will get RECESS BASKETS!
 Students who raise $150 throughout KHC will receive XL Victor Keychain
Finn's Mission Incentive
 All students who complete Finn's Mission will earn their lifesavers cape!
 AHA + NFL: Each student or staff member who completes Finn's Mission earns a
chance to win two tickets to Super Bowl LXI in 2027. For every 18 participants who
complete Finn's Mission, our school will also be entered to win a $10,000 fitness
equipment makeover.

Congratulations to January’s Lexia MVPs. These students moved up a level in our individualized computer-based reading practice program. Way to go!

Monday is our Parent Teacher Organization meeting at 5:30. Please join us! All are welcome. Friday, February 13th is an early dismissal day at 12:30. All donations for the American Heart Association are also due on the 13th. We will be closed on Monday, February 16th. Thank you!
