Hello DIS families!
As you may begin some spring cleaning or as your student is getting bigger in a blink of an eye, would you consider donating your child's old uniforms to our school? Our school nurse is requesting prek-2nd grade sizes. We are also in need of socks and underwear to have on hand for littles for when accidents happen. We would greatly appreciate it. Again, only sizes are needed for prek-2nd grade size-we are stocked on 3rd to 5th. Thank you!

March 15th is Parent Teacher conferences from 4 to 6 pm.
March 17th schools are closed.
Today we had our Jump Rope for Heart event during gym class. Ms. Jones set up a giant jumping themed game board for students to play. Our school has raised almost $6000 for the American Heart Association! We are so grateful for all the donations and will celebrate our efforts with a free casual day tomorrow! Thanks so much for all that you do!!
Today we honored all the teachers who were nominated for 2023-2024 Teacher of the Year at Deal Island. Miss Jones is our DIS TOY! One of the students who nominated her was Hunter who presented her with the award. Thank you to all that nominated and good luck to Miss Jones as she competes against other schools for SCPS TOY!
We are LOVING next week February 13-17! Monday we have after school tutoring but Tuesday we do not due to Valentine's Day! Classroom teachers will reach out if they are celebrating within their classrooms. Wednesday we have after school church and American Heart Association $ is due. Thursday will be the Jump Rope for Heart event during students gym time. Friday we are going to celebrate students fundraising efforts by having a free casual day AND a glow party during specials. Wear your neon, white or bright clothing! The following Monday, February 20th there is no school.

A huge thanks to all that have donated sneakers, used or new, to our school! When students forget to wear sneakers on gym days, they will still be able to participate. We received so many shoes that we stored some away. We could still use kids size 4-12 or Youth size 7-9. Thank you so much for supporting our school!!!

January was a long year but we made it! Hello February! Next week: February 6th-10th is a nice full week with tutoring on M/T and Church on Wednesday. We have a $1 casual day on Friday.

Upcoming Events:
Jump Rope for Heart $ (including cash & check ((made out to the American Heart Association))) is due February 15th. We will have our jumping event on the 16th.
We have no school on February 20th for President's Day.
4th & 5th will be competing in a Spelling Bee on February 22nd.
2023 Hit the Books bookmarks are coming home this week! Students who read 4 books and return the bottom portion of the bookmark will receive 2 free tickets to a Shorebirds game this spring. The program ends Friday, February 24th. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Pusey.
Today is orange chicken for lunch instead of tenders. It is also a free casual day/incentive! Please wear sneakers for gym.
